This Caramel Ghost dial 1803 Day Date is presented on the original President bracelet with a beautifully patinated case. While we shy from the term ‘unpolished’ the watch has likely only seen cuff polishing during its’ 50 year life, as evidenced by the particularly sharp and square lugs, crisp inner case lines and general deep treacle gold patina.

A true icon from the most innovative days of Rolex, this 1972 1803 is the one of the first to feature the hacking, non-quickset movement. On the wrist the stepped dial 1803 offers a near architectural visual verticality, that continues to deliver.

It’s rare to find an 1803 in such untouched condition. Most have been serviced and polished many times during their 50 year life, and as such have lost so much of the case detail and sharpness that defines the classic Oyster Rolex case. Once lost, that originality can no longer be restored.

The Caramel Ghost dial exhibits a relatively light patina, with some pleasant and uniform white tritium vignetting. Across the watch it’s possible to find some small bursts of electric purple patination on the 18 carat case, bracelet and clasp which is an assured sign of the watch’s originality.
