Few manufacturers are able to produce watches in 18k gold & steel with such impressive results. Rolex however, has years of experience in designing and creating bi-metal watches, with models such as the ‘Root Beer’ GMT Master and the ‘Bluesy’ Submariner cementing Rolex’s status as an expert in the field of balancing precious and hard-wearing materials.

On the wrist this 40mm ceramic Submariner 116613 delivers an impressive level of visual interest, in a package that’s comfortable and wearable. The 120 click bezel is beautifully tactile, and the glide lock clasp allows for tool-free micro adjustment of the bracelet on the fly. The bracelet centre links, bezel surround, crown and clasp centre are all solid 18k gold and infer an incredible sense of gravity to the entire piece, both figuratively and literally. The dial furniture and hands also see the 18k treatment, both being solid 18k gold, while the bezel numerals are applied in 18k via physical vapour deposition.

The dial presents as deep blue in darker environments, but explodes into an impressive royal blue sunburst with the introduction of light - coalescing with the 18k yellow gold tones, it makes for a particularly regal combination.

Whilst there are some hairline marks visible in strong light on the polished sections, the watch is in very good condition and even retains its case-back sticker.
