Giorgetto Giugiaro is one of the finest designers of the 21st century. His talent for design extended from automotive to industrial and beyond, but perhaps his most recognisable works, outside of the automotive sector, are to be found in the 7A28 series of watches produced by seiko in the 1980s. This 7A28 6000 bishop is not only revered by design enthusiast, but also by movie connoisseurs alike, as it was this reference that was famously worn by the character bishop, in the movie aliens.
This particular example is in excellent condition, especially when compared to so many 6000s seen on the market. The PVD/Coated case and bracelet are in very good condition for the models age, showing slight wear on the bezel edges, case corners, and on the bracelet link that meets the clasp. Often these watches are seen with very heavy wear and damage, but not here the dial is in excellent condition, as is the bezel insert, bracelet and clasp.
There is oxidation to be seen on the minute hand - an idiosyncrasy that is often seen across bishop models. Naturally there are small signs of wear across the watch as a whole. The watch has recently benefitted from a full service and runs beautifully with all functions keeping time and performing well. The original pushers, which are in very good condition are known for splitting and so have been removed for safe keeping, while the watch sports a set of kawa chrono replacements.
The watch comes with the original rare seiko box, and there is also a spare link (unfortunately missing its pvd coating) to add to the very long bracelet (suitable for a 180mm wrist without the additional link). The 7a28 seikos continue to gather momentum, and good original examples with good length bracelets, such as this one are becoming harder to find.
