EXOTIC.

“Exotic” watches, is a phrase I started to use several years ago while trying to describe what attracted me, and others, to most of the pieces in our collections.

Like the collection on Peachy, it referred an eclectic mix of horological creations from a broad cross-section of manufacturers, along an even broader span of time, and it wasn’t price specific. Neo-vintage watches, luxury watches, haute horlogerie, and deliciously digital 90’s sports timers all came under the umbrella. There’s no hard criteria. ‘Exotic’ is a feeling, it’s elusive, and yet somehow easily defined by those of us who just get it.

As with any collection, there’s often a concentric buzz around one particular defining feature; but the cohesive element that held our collections together wasn't a manufacturer, a design characteristic or a specific complication, it was that in our eyes these watches were all exotic.

To enjoy exotica is to appreciate the anglage on a neo-vintage Breguet, or revel in the history and provenence of a vintage chronograph from Omega or Rolex, or to reminisce and find delight in digital dive computers of the 1990’s. On top of that are the experiences and lives we live while wearing these fantastic objects of design, and ultimately this is where we as exotica enthusiasts transcend even the highest levels of normal horological satisfaction.

If you described to someone that your favourite pastime involved studying guilloché through a loupe while enjoying an aperol-spritz at your favourite lakeside café, they might look at you funny, but not here… Here we are all exotica enthusiasts, and how you enjoy your exotica, is up to you.
